ASSESSOR MAPPING

The greatest advantages of using Aero-Data for Tax Assessor mapping purposes are flexibility and customization. We work directly with clients to incorporate, as well as update, their current maps into an accurate and versatile Geographic Information System (GIS). After acquiring existing data from older county tax maps, we can digitize property lines, combine them with Aero-Data's high-resolution digital aerial photography, and customize the layout to fit your particular needs (see pictures below). This gives assessors the flexibility to easily access, edit, and even view the information in any way the user wishes. If the digital photography is ever updated, the more recent photography can be inserted in place of the older photography with no need to redraw the property lines. The digital imagery can also be written to a series of CDs for rapid retrieval and compact storage (since CDs occupy much less space than conventional paper plots). When incorporated into a GIS program, such as ArcView GIS, the digital imagery can be viewed at any location within the coverage area at any scale. Although the clarity of the image at extremely tight zooms is determined by the resolution of the digital imagery, most features are recognizable with a resolution of one foot.

The data for each property can be entered manually or entire tables of data may be joined to a central database in ArcView. This database is easily managed and highly expandable. It can even be sorted on any field to group properties with common or sequential information. For example, a single property may be located by selecting its line of data in the database after it has been sorted (i.e. by landowner or street address). Similarly, multiple properties with similar data (i.e. acreage or property value) can be selected to show their relationship to each other and access routes. The properties can also be labeled with pertinent identifiers such as the names of property owners and the acreage of the properties. These labels remain the same size relative to the digital imagery. This system also allows users to produce multiple layouts to plot the digital imagery at any scale and cropping. Unlike producing photographic matte film copies, these plots can be stored to produce multiple plots at exactly the same scale and cropping. These layouts can include custom designed title blocks and can be plotted on any medium on any plotter.

Once the GIS has been established, Aero-Data personnel can provide you with the training necessary to manage and utilize the GIS to its fullest. This includes updating and modifying the databases, adding and editing property lines, incorporating new layers of data, and designing useful plots. Aero-Data can also assist in expanding the GIS for other needs.
