Revised
July 14, 1999 to show taxi sequence to runway 3, runway
21 and runway 31.
Notes
from Wayne Grip:
The
following maps and digital images of Madison and Oshkosh were produced
using a digital stereoplotter from 1998 / 1:40,000 scale vertical
aerial photography. The images and maps were rectified, scaled,
and registered in our mapping system using ground control features
visible on USGS 1:24,000 scale maps. The images are considerably
more accurate in positioning and much higher in resolution than
the sectional chart.
The
original task, at the request of fellow list member Dave Piehler,
was to help identify and count the available tiedown locations at
MSN, and this has been accomplished. However, additional products
were produced because I believe that the stereoplotter-generated
materials would also be useful navigation aids to the Mooney caravan
pilots while taxing to the active runway, identifying visual reference
points to overfly while departing MSN, landing at OSH, and finally
taxing to camping.
These
images were produced from screen shots of raster and vector images
at 1024 x 768 resolution. The entire project is setup in ArcView
which is a geographic information system. The images and maps will
be loaded on my laptop and can be used in the Madison briefing (by
running ArcView) and displayed at a much higher resolution than
these screen shots while using a video projector.
